European Ranking Format
From 2025 onwards the EDF will have 10 rankings.
Those are:
- Cloth – Men
- Cloth – Women
- Cloth – Mixed
- Foam – Men
- Foam – Women
- Foam – Mixed
- Overall Cloth
- Overall Foam
- Overall European Ranking
- Medal Race
The individual rankings are the base for all seedings in EDF-tournaments.
The Overall Ranking is an accumulation of all points gathered in the 6 individual rankings.
The individual Overall Rankings (Cloth and Foam) are an accumulation of all points gathered in the 3 respective individual rankings.
The Medal Race displays all won medals at European Championships.
The following describes how the ranking of nations functions within the individual ranking tables:
- The number of participating teams in each competition dictates how many ranking points there are. if 10 teams compete, the first place finisher gets 10 ranking points, if 20 teams compete, 20 ranking points are awarded for 1st place and so on.
- all other points awarded by placement decrease by 1. If 20 teams compete, first place gets 20, second place gets 19, third place gets 18 and so on.
- Teams who do not compete in a tournament receive 0 ranking points.
- A team will receive a 100% of the points for the most recent European Championship Tournament.
- A team will receive a 75% of the points for the 2nd most recent European Championship Tournament.
- A team will receive a 25% of the points for the 3rd most recent European Championship Tournament.
- In the case of a points tie between two nations in the ranking table, they will both be allocated the same position (eg: both will be counted as 5th place) within the table; however, for seeding purposes in tournaments, the team with the higher result in the most recent tournament will take the higher seed.
Only Full Members will be shown in the rankings.
Provisional Members are not qualified.
Only results in the European Championships will be considered for the rankings.
Regional and Junior tournaments will not yet be reflected in the EDF European Ranking System.
